Jesus Man

The last thing I think I ever wanted to be was a Jesus Man. A Jesus Man isn't just a believer in or follower of Jesus Christ. No, a Jesus Man spends a large part of his life at church. He brings Jesus into everything. If a sports team needs to make a big comeback, well, Jesus came back from the dead, so anything is possible. Can the hero get out of the trap? Well, Jesus got out of the grave, so... To paraphrase Jan Brady, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus." (Of course, a Jesus man probably wouldn't know who Jan Brady was).

Well, as I am going further on my spiritual maturation as a Christian, I am finding that I am doing things that I didn't previously do. One of the things the prison ministry has gotten me to do is pray over everything. One of the ministry tenets is to pray over the entire endeavor, down to the pizza delivery. This has since leeched out into other aspects of my life. I'm praying over oil changes and test results. This is clearly Jesus Man behavior.

In addition to going to church every week and doing the prison ministry. I have now started going to a Sunday school class. And when the teacher went on a mission trip, I actually volunteered to lead the class. Like it or not, I am clearly becoming a Jesus Man.

The very secular part of myself is fighting this rather strenuously. I already give people plenty of reasons to avoid or dislike me. I don't need to add boring and Jesus obsessed to the list. But something that I learned from reading the Old Testament last year is that it pays to obey. So, like it or not, I am becoming a Jesus Man.
